Not just wedding planners, we also do parties!

E and I took a break from wedding planning for awhile to become party planners. We had the honor of throwing E's brother and sister-in-law a baby shower. We had a whole list of themes to propose but our favorite was Legos because E's brother loved Legos as a child. Thankfully they chose the Lego theme and we just like that we were off and running. I immediately began internet research. Just so you know, if you Google "Lego Baby Shower" you will get 0 hits that actually match aka you gotta get creative. We are trailblazers, no big deal. Luckily we were able to find two items that we used as a jumping off point for the party. Lego candy that you can actually build with and Lego licensed napkins.

Next we focused on decorations. Thankfully E is a genius at color-blocking. We decided to color-block the room in traditional Lego primary colors of red, yellow, green, and blue. We used table cloths, balloons, plates, and paper lantern-like balls to get the whole color-blocking effect.

Once we had the decorations in order we focused on “centerpieces”. We found some pails that we assume were meant for sand-castles and found they looked like upside down hollowed out Lego pieces. We filled them with Legos that people could build with and flanked them on either side with bowls of the Lego candy.

Next came the pièce de résistance: a Lego cake. We made this at home using a sheet cake and cupcakes. The strategy is to frost the sheet cake, then cut the tops off of the cupcakes so that they sit flat, arrange the cupcakes to look like the tops pegs of a Lego piece, frost, and enjoy.

Every baby shower needs activities and so we chose two that we found functional and traditional. The traditional game we chose was the baby food challenge. Guests must taste 6 baby foods and guess what they are. We chose 5 traditional fruits and vegetables and one tie breaker (Mac & Cheese). Next we chose onesie decorating. Little known fact: the term “onesie” is trademarked by the Gerber corporation. Anywho, we picked up some white onesies in assorted sized of newborn and 3-6 months. We also found some fabric paint markers in red, yellow, green, and black. Below is the onesie that we made ahead of time as an example.

The onesie decorating went really well. Below are some examples of the wonderful onesies made.

"New Arrival"                    "Grandma <3's me (more       "My Aunt's a Golden Retriever"
                                                                  than tongues can tell)"

By Gracie                          "My G-pa cleans drawers"                     "Caution"

And finally, the onesie that may have sparked the funniest photo moment of the day:

If you are ever in need of party planners keep E and me in mind! All we need is a theme! With that I will leave you with this beautiful moment from the baby shower:
